Broad City is a sitcom written by comedic queens Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson who hilariously struggle to survive in New York City. Geared toward millennials, their humor expertly captured the essence of relatable, fierce, funny feminism. Although the show ended in 2019, it continues to be a pop culture mainstay, catapulting phrases like the iconic, “Yas, queen!,” into the mainstream which originated in the ballroom culture of the LGBTQAI+ community.
Most recently, another iconic phrase, “In Da Clerb, We All Fam,” has caught its second wave on social media resonating with younger generations. So how does it work? TikTokers lip-sync over a famous scene between the dynamic duo from an episode where they rent out their apartment for extra cash and wind up at a club until their guests leave. As they awkwardly try to blend in with other seasoned clubgoers, to Abbi’s confusion, Ilana reassuringly tells her, “In Da Clerb, We All Fam.”
The phrase has become so popular celebrities have capitalized off the trend, offering their viral interpretations. Pop musician, Sabrina Carpenter, created a TikTok using the audio clip to describe the generational differences between her older and younger fans. It's even made its silver screen debut, appearing in Succession, Bottoms, and Bodies, Bodies, Bodies. But no matter where you might’ve heard it, the meaning is all the same. No matter how different you are from someone or how unfamiliar you feel in a situation, we all belong.
To outsiders, the coffee community might seem pretentious. We created our version of “In Da Clerb, We All Fam,” so we could make coffee accessible to everyone. Hailing from CoopeAgri, a community of farmers in Costa Rica, our “In Da Clerb, We All Fam” is a light, specialty-grade roast with aromas of red apple and baking spice and flavor notes of raisin, brown sugar, and stone fruit. We know you’re going to love it! So whether you use a $2,000 espresso machine or a $10 automatic coffee maker. Whether you grind your own beans or choose our pre-ground option. At TDB, we all fam!
